Borgo Antico Agriturismo Lunch

As you would imagine, Italy has wonderful food.  While the cuisine does vary some from area to area, the same basic concepts apply.  Italians focus on fewer ingredients and ingredients that are in season.  All throughout Sicily you will drive by old men selling fruit and vegetables from the back of their truck.  Right now you'll find bright purple cauliflower bigger than your head, oranges, peppers, and artichokes.

Some of the best meals you'll eat throughout Italy are at Agriturismo's.  These are local farms that serve lunch and dinner.  A certain amount of their food has to be grown on site in order to have the title.

This past weekend we went to Borgo Antico for a long lunch with friends.  One of the other supply couples are moving back to the states, so we sent them off in style.  Meals at Agriturismo's are no joke.  If you go away even remotely hungry, or wanting dinner, you've done something terribly wrong.  The best part of the meal is antipasti (appetizers).  They are small dishes that the waiters continuously bring out.  At Borgo Antico they have some of the best I've had.  Here's a short list of what we enjoyed: sun dried tomatoes, cheese, olives, two artichoke dishes, grilled eggplant, grilled mushrooms, croquets, fresh bread, omlettes, blood orange salad (so good!), and more.

We enjoyed our meal so much, and it was spent in a beautiful location with wonderful friends.  It is certainly a place that we'll return to.  Likely a place where we'll take guests when they come.  (Do you need more incentive to come?)

On our way back to the highway there was a slight delay on the road....
