Ireland Day 5 & 6

Our last two days were spent in Dublin, Ireland.  We stayed outside the city, about 10 minutes by DART.  It was wonderful.  We were able to enjoy Dublin by day, and have some quiet by night.  Our boutique hotel the Aberdeen Lodge was very nice.  We enjoyed visiting with the other guests in the drawing room.  Every night after coming in from a long day in the city we would get tea or coffee and a little treat.  It was the little things that made our stay more enjoyable.

Our first stop in Dublin was at Trinity College visiting the Book of Kells.  On my previous trip to Dublin I didn't stop here, and was happy that we did this time.  The Book of Kells is beautiful, but my favorite part was walking through the Trinity College Library (sorry no cameras were allowed).  They have many priceless manuscripts, and it is a true book haven.  (If only all those darn tourists weren't there.)  As we were standing in line to enter we were surrounded by crowds tourists 60 years and over, Patrick made the observation that 'it's like Disney Land for seniors.'

We rode the hop on hop off bus through our two day tour there.  Soren enjoyed being on the open top deck and watching the cars go by.  We made stops at the usual places, the Guinness factory, St Patrick's Cathedral, and Kilmainham Goal (Jail).

Getting ready to head out for the day.

Sweet boy taking it all in.

  1. Looks like a fun family day out! And the pictures are absolutely lovely! If you enjoy manuscripts and ancient books you could consider visiting Chester Beatty Library on your next trip to Dublin! It displays a great collection of manuscripts, paintings, prints, drawings, books and some decorative arts from all over the world, and the entrance is free! Also, you could take a Viking Splash Tour, a fun way to explore Dublin from both water and land! I’m sure your child would enjoy that! :D
